Road Sleeper

  after J. K.

It is time now
for my feet to roam in
          open, wide road like
              a gypsy-man.

I will sit
      on the grass, seize
          the stars and the night's
              sweet breath.

I will pay
      the sky with tears for
          starlight, bed life
              in highway's canvas.

It is time
to go home in the dark
          where sleep is
              good and gold and long.

  2. there's a time for being out on the road and a time when we know it's time to go home... sometimes the road feels like home as well... i slept once outside in the desert with just the sky above...it was both - the most scary and the most magical experience...

  5. Good, gold and long sleep sounds about right, so I'll puff up the pillows on my bed and see if it works tonight.

  6. I love the cadence of your verses Kelvin ~ I specially admire the second stanza, and that ending with the sleep that is good, gold & long ~

As I just had a good night sleep, a good morning to you then ~

  7. A sound sleep is something of a paradox. Others doze off in the midst of a meeting while others were tossing and turning in bed. Great write Kelvin!

  8. Your poem makes me think of "For everything there is a season." There is a time to roam & explore, a time to sit and gaze, and a time to return home to rest in one's own bed. There really is time for all in life.

  15. As you said in comments on my poem--I could read this over and over. It is something I would like read to me on my death bed. But then, I tend to read that into a lot of things. This is stunning, Kelvin.

  17. I've traveled to drop my brother off at his work a couple times, and literally drove across the way to a motel and slept in my vehicle. It can be cumbersome getting up earlier than the norm.
